A closer look at the health benefits of Vitamin D

The many possible positive health impacts of vitamin D have got a lot of attention in recent years. Known as the “sunshine vitamin,” vitamin D is created in your skin in response to direct sunlight. It can also be found in small amounts in foods such as fish, dairy products, and orange juice. Many people don’t get a lot of sun and most foods are not a great source of vitamin D, which has resulted in many people taking supplements to boost their levels. Vitamin D is important to the development of dense, healthy bones, as it makes it possible for our bodies to absorb much-needed calcium. Research has also suggested that it may lower average blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes and ward off respiratory infections in some people.
