Women and stroke: What you need to know
Jul 30, 2024 - McMaster University - 2-minutes
The Bottom Line
According to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 89% of women are not aware of their unique risk factors. This is important as stroke disproportionately affects women, resulting in worse outcomes and higher mortality rates. In this 2-minute video, Dr. Ada Tang, Associate Professor, Rehabilitation Science, explains the various factors that affect women throughout their lifespan and some of the challenges they face when recovering.
Looking for more information about risk factors for women? Visit the Heart & Stroke Foundation’s website or download their checklist of risk factors for women's heart and brain health (see below).
Dr. Ada Tang is a physiotherapist, Professor and Assistant Dean of Rehabilitation Science in the School of Rehabilitation Science, and a McMaster University Scholar. Dr. Tang and the MacStroke Canada research team are focused on the impact of exercise on cardiovascular health, fitness, and function in people living with stroke and other conditions.
