It’s Nutrition Month! Strategies to help you age optimally

National Nutrition Month is celebrated annually in the month of March and aims to educate people about making informed choices about the foods they eat and help them develop healthy eating habits. Just like exercise, nutrition is an important part of healthy aging. There are countless popular diets out there, but for many of these diets, there is a lack of research available to determine if they really help people lose weight and if they are safe to practice.

When we talk about nutrition, we must consider more than just the food we eat. Nutritional strategies include diets, nutritional counselling, oral nutritional supplements (e.g., amino acids, creatine, alpha-linoleic acid, beta-methyl butyrate, leucin, or protein), or any combination of the three. Several nutritional strategies—including nutritional counselling, supplements, and dietary changes—can help those with different body types improve aspects of their body composition. Furthermore, combining multiple strategies may provide greater benefits than using a single strategy.
